A university project with the brief of writing, designing and binding a book based on a childhood memory.
I spent my childhood on the Island of Anglesey in North Wales. I have three older brothers, and our house was very isolated. Due to this I often played games with myself playing numerous rolls.
I used to stand on a slate water storer with a rope and pretend to be a lifeguard by casting the rope down to the ground. I would then pretend to be rescued by myself. This book contains a poem illustrating what I imagined in my head at the time, and the illustrations represent the reality of each verse.
The paper I used is slightly translucent and allows the image of myself as a child to show through slightly through the paper, this represents me playing both roles in my fantasy. I set the images small and low, to give a domineering adults perspective on the scenes, and to emphasize the desolate expanse of where I lived.
